Autoradam is to build a ‘car wash cathedral’ in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area next year. According to the Dutch company, the eight-storey wash centre will be one of the largest in Europe.

The new, 46 metre high Autoradam complex will be built close to the motorway, with fast access to Schiphol Airport, the centre of the capital and the surrounding residential areas. The whole building will include no less than 25,000 square metres.

The first two floors will include two tunnels with a length of eighty metres. There will also be an eighty-metre-long interior track and a car wash. In addition, a 50-metre long car wash for long vans, trucks and SUVs/Pick-ups will be realized in the complex.

Loading and vacuuming

Furthermore, on the ground floor there will be a covered and heated vacuum cleaning area with a size of 5,000 square metres. In addition, there will also be fifteen self-service car-wash bays, a car-detailing department and a fast-charging bay in combination with free vacuum cleaning. For those getting hungry during washing, the building will also be equipped with a catering facility.

In addition to the washing and charging facilities, it will also be possible to rent or lease cars and vans on the spot. On yet another floor, an experience centre will be built with alternative means of transport.

Sustainable construction

To keep in sync with the modern times, the entire complex will be built with sustainable and recyclable raw materials. It will also be energy-neutral due to ‘highly innovative developments’, and according to Autoradam, the washing process will be fully recyclable.

The shape of the mobility centre gave the company’s management the idea of calling it a wax cathedral.
Construction will start in 2023 and the opening is expected in December 2023. Negotiations with the suppliers of the various machines will start next month. “These new building plans fit perfectly into Autoradam’s quest to expand branches for the coming years,” the company reports.

Autoradam is 134 years old and operates, among other things, two petrol stations, several car washes and is active in car rental and leasing.
