National Car Wash Day is coming up. Or is it?

Wash your car on National Car Wash Day

Every day is a day of something. Apart from National Snake Day, National Puppy Day and National Superhero Day, someone in the US or Canada also came up with National Car Wash Day. Next week, on the 28th of March it’s that day again. Or is it?

According to Eventguide, National Car Wash Day started popping up in the year 2000 while other sources mention 2015 as its inception state. Canada seems to have its own car wash day, which is held in May. We even came across a ‘Car Wash Weekend’, invented by Hyundai.

But there is some confusion about the right date. Most US car washes seem to agree on March 28, while others use July 14 as National Car Wash Day.  That particular date happens to be the birthday of ‘car wash guru’ Bentley Brandon, seen by many as the initiator of the festive day.

A few years back, Brandon managed to get the date officially recognized in nine states, including Colorado, Washington and Florida as official National Car Wash Day. But in Covid times, things got a bit murky. The official Car Wash Day-website is currently up for sale and the last post on its Instagram page was more than two years ago.

#NationalCarWashDay

The discussion about the exact date aside, many car washes around the US use National Car Wash Day to walk the extra mile for their charity projects. Often, these projects happen in the immediate vicinity of the car wash, so the local community can benefit from it. Other car washes put up some extra lights or give a discount.

And a quick search through Twitter learns that fire stations and police departments across the country have also adopted the name for some charity washing.

Whatever the exact date is, be sure to enjoy National Car Wash Day.
