Here’s where they wash sports cars

Not one but two checkpoints are necessary before you can reach the Tec & Wash gantry car wash at the famous Hockenheimring in Germany. And even then you have to leave your expensive Porsche, Ferrari or Lamborghini and hand the keys over to the highly qualified car wash staff, who all had training in professional motor vehicle preparation.

No, this is no ordinary car wash. Here at Tec & Wash, they clean beautiful and expensive sports cars, before or after they have been on the nearby race track. Sometimes more than 100 cars a day pass through the gantry. Since the start-up in July last year, about 4,000 washes have been performed in the WashTec machines at Hockenheim.

Race history

The famous race circuit Hockenheimring is almost 100 years old. In 2019, the German Formula 1 Grand Prix was held here. The circuit also hosts the Porsche Experience Centre, who is one of the primary clients of the WashTec car wash. About 50 to 60 Porsches go to the gantry every single day, as well as the sports cars of many private customers.

On weekends there can be as many as 2,000 racing cars on the circuit. Some of them are ‘flipped’ in the car wash. This is the name for a special washing programme, which focuses especially on the sensitive spoiler (as seen on a Porsche 911 GT3, for example).

Custom written wash programmes

And the custom care goes even further. Many of the super sports cars from brands like Lamborghini, Aston Martin, McLaren, Ferrari and Porsche require individual washing programmes, we learn from WashTec. They custom-wrote no less than eight different washing programmes for the SoftCare2 Juno XL gantry.

After washing, the team drives the race cars directly into the vehicle preparation bay, where detailing is taken to the next level.

If this sounds like your kind of job, you can even apply. Only two months ago they were looking for new staff.
