The New Shell Recharge at Giessen.

In an unusual joint venture, Shell Recharge has just opened the first ultra-fast EV chargers at a Kentucky Fried Chicken fast food restaurant in Giessen. Germany. Pretty soon, 22 other KFC branches near highways will also have Shell Recharge installations installed.

While eating a Double Bacon Cheese or Hot Wings, customers can quickly charge their electric car, is the idea. A total of six charging points are available to them, all come with a charging capacity of 300 kW.

The first Shell Recharge charging facility at a KFC can be found on Schiffenberger Weg in Giessen, about 25 kilometers north of Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

The restaurant in Giessen is the first of 23 national KFC restaurants near the highway where Shell Recharge will build ultra-fast charging stations with a total of 120 DC charging points in the coming years.

New chapter

“Shell and KFC have a long-standing strategic partnership in the convenience retail sector and I am pleased that today we are opening a new chapter together,” said Tobias Bahnsen, head of Shell E-mobility and responsible for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. “By deploying the first Shell Recharge charging points at KFC in Europe, we are working together to promote the energy transition and make it easier for drivers to switch to an electric vehicle.”

2050

The new expansion of the Recharge brand is part of Shell’s plan to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. To reach this landmark, one of Shell’s goals is to operate more than 70,000 public charging points worldwide by 2025 and more than 200,000 by 2030.
