Sunderland plans new service station

Sunderland may get a new service station soon. Apart from a petrol, EV charging hub and a Starbucks it would also include a few jet wash bays. Buillding plans have just been submitted to the city Council.

The semicircle-shaped vacant site sits off the roundabout in the so-called Rainton Meadows area. A new vehicular entrance and exit are also planned at the site from the B1284.

The new service station will include a petrol filling station, a drive-thru coffee shop (named in submitted designs as Starbucks) and four ‘ultra-rapid’ electric vehicle charging points.

In addition, jet wash bays and ‘three-in-one valet bays’ are also proposed as part of the development.

29 parking spots

On-site parking provision would total 29 bays split between the petrol filling station and drive-thru unit.
According to the planning statement, 45 full-time equivalent staff would be required to “undertake the day-to-day operations” at the site.

Should the plans go ahead, no specific opening date has been set. The Council will decide after February 16 if they will give a go or not.
