Car washing on a burned-out cargo ship
Head to the north of The Netherlands if you want to see the world’s strangest car wash. A floating hand car wash which cleans thousands of cars before they are allowed to leave a burned out cargo ship.
A fire broke out on the cargo ship Fremantle Highway last month when it was sailing just north of The Netherlands, carrying 3,784 cars. One person was killed and several others were injured. There were a total of 23 people on board.
The fire probably started in one of the 500 electric vehicles on board and was hard to put out. It eventually emerged that about a thousand vehicles on the lower four decks still appeared to be in good condition. The upper decks were badly damaged and most cars parked there are considered total loss

Salvage started
Last Saturday. salvage companies started with the removal of cars from the burned-out cargo ship in the Eems-harbour. The vehicles are being removed from the ship via a hand car wash that was installed on board.
The cars are being washed on the ship for environmental reasons. The water being used to wash the vehicles will be collected and disposed of afterwards, according to the salvage companies Boskalis and Multraship. Images show they do not use a rollover or mobile tunnel, which could have speeded up the process considerably. The cars are simply sprayed down.

After the cars have passed through the mobile car wash, they will be disembarked and parked in a specially protected area in the port. From that moment on, it is up to the owner of the cargo and the inspectors to determine what happens to the cars.
Disembarkment and washing is expected to take more than a week.
