French car wash limits opening hours after noise complaints
“Nuisances sonores.” That’s French for noise pollution. Since the opening of a new Formule Plus car wash last year, some neighbors of Formule Plus car wash were less enthusiastic than its customers. The dryer apparently makes a lot of noise.
Originally, the Formule Plus car wash in Blanzy (just north of Lyon) was open day and night. But after complaints by residents living nearby, the owner limited the use of its rollover. Local newspaper Informateur de Bourgogne is writing about the case.
“Everyone in the neighborhood hears the noise,” says one of the house owners who lives nearby. “We sent a first letter to the mayor on May 29, 2022 to report the noise.” According to the lady, the mayor of Blanzy is ignoring their complaints.
But mayor Hervé Mazurek denies that. He understands the unpleasant situation of the residents, and says he warned the manager of the car wash, Thomas Okrzesil. The latter replies he never had any direct complaints from nearby residents and only heard from the mayor so far.
Drying
Okrzesil says he has limited the use of the rollover machine from 7 AM to 10 PM. It’s apperently the drying application of the rollover that is causing the problem. A quick search on Google Maps learns, Formule Plus is using Kärcher equipment.
Some neighbors are not satisfied with the restrictions. They claim it became impossible to sit outside during summer days because of the noise. Though the same person admits she is also living on a busy road. The D980 is the road to Mâcon.
