Even though the economy in The Netherlands is looking pretty healthy, the saturated power grid has become a major economic bottleneck. Car washes with expansion plans are sometimes hindered by this. They have to wait years before they get a green light for extra power.

According to two big large Dutch business organizations, companies are increasingly hampered with expansion, electrification and new construction plans. “This requires maximum inventiveness from grid operators and entrepreneurs to solve the problems with, among other things, speeding up grid investment projects and faster permits. It should become easier in the near future to exchange power between business parks to relieve the grid.”

Locked up

It became clear last Wednesday that a large part of the electricity grid in the northern provinces of The Netherlands will be locked. The power grid in parts of major city The Hague has also reached full capacity.

The electricity grid in the Netherlands is under mounting pressure because companies and consumers are increasingly demanding additional capacity at an accelerating rate, for example because they are saying goodbye to natural gas or need extra power for their EV-car or -fleet.
