Truck Wash offers reward after arson

Significant damage after arson at truck wash facility Cologne Truck Wash Service GmbH

Who set the Cologne Truck Wash on fire? The owners of the German company near motorway A4 want to know and offer a reward of €5,000 for leads that will help solve the crime.

It wasn’t the best of nights, that night between Carnival Saturday and Sunday, last February. When  two people set fire to the entrance gate of one of the truck wash lanes of the German truck car wash in Cologne.

“The surveillance images clearly show how a liquid from a canister was deliberately spread,” says Vanessa Woryna, who is Operations Manager at the site.

A driver on the nearby highway 4 saw the fire and alerted the fire department, as no personnel were present at the time. According to reports from the officers that arrived at the scene, the fire had been burning for around 10 to 15 minutes. “Fortunately, the fire department was on site quickly, otherwise it could have been very dangerous here. After all, we’re at an SVG truck stop here and there are always trucks parked nearby, in which the drivers sleep,” Woryna points out.

Lot of damage

The cleaning work to remove the soot and the repairs are still ongoing. But washing can continue on the remaining four washing lanes without any restrictions. The extent of the damage is still not entirely clear. However, the damaged entrance gate alone has caused damage of around €25,000.

Normally, trucks, bulk carriers and other oversized vehicles are washed in Cologne Truck Wash’s five lanes at the Cologne-Eifeltor site. Each lane has high-quality three-brush washing systems, which are supplemented by manual hand washing.

Two lanes are particularly suitable for bulk trucks, as the brushes of the washing system are longer. One of these lanes is now temporarily unavailable because the entrance gate was damaged in a fire.
