Watch the transformation of a neglected Mercedes SL 190
We can’t seem to get enough of videos of forgotten ‘barn find’ cars that finally receive some love after decades of neglect. The detailing specialists of WD recently cleaned a beautiful Mercedes 190 SL sports car. They used almost 50 specialized products in the process.
It’s not surprising the detailing video got more than 3 million views within a month after uploading it. Only 25,000 cars were made of the Mercedes 190 SL, which ran between 1955 and 1963.
WD Detailing found one that had been sleeping in the barn since 1960. Many parts were taken off and kept separate in boxes.
Corroded battery
In the video you follow the process of cleaning the car and restore as much as original parts while at it. First the car is thoroughly vacuumed, followed by a pressure wash of the rims, wheels and bodywork. Specialized detailers will love this part, where it becomes clear how much difference decent chemicals will make. In the video description, WD reveals the full list of the almost 50 products they used. A goldmine for beginners.
Even though they manage to change the corroded battery, the robust 1.9-litre inline-four engine sadly remains dead. According to WD Detailing, it will be hard to get it up and running again. But if a skilled mechanic succeeds, the car will be worth an estimated $200,000.
WD Detailing is an American detailing company from Ohio which has specialized in ‘barn find video’s. They currently have more than 719k followers on their YouTube channel alone.
