JUHUU Bike Wash opens and it’s free
Austria has just gotten its first bicycle wash. It’s a cooperation between Wintersteiger Sports and the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien. During the trial period, washing will be free of charge.
Bike wash machines are not new. Countries like the Netherlands, Germany and France already have bike washes that are commercially available. The JUHUU wash takes place in a closed wash box and is operated by an app. During the trial period, it will only be avaiable in the German language.
Wintersteiger Sports is known as a manufacturer of ski waxing machines, so not exactly a professional in the car wash or bicycle industry. They recently started a new company called JUHUU, which rents out bikes throughout Vienna..
With JUHUU, they want to “make a contribution to ecological and automatic bicycle maintenance in Vienna” with this first public facility in an urban area. The Austrian bike wash is located between the buildings of the University in the 20th district in Vienna.
The closed wash box is suitable for a variety of single-track bikes, including e-bikes, from 20-inch wheels upwards. Children’s bikes or cargo bikes are not suited for the wash machine. During the test operation, which is planned until December 22, the facility can be used free of charge from Monday to Sunday, 8.30 am to 5.30 pm. Registration and use is via the intuitive JUHUU app.
