Longer, bigger, Buc-ee’s
Daytona Beach in Florida will open one of the world’s longest car washes, with a 230 feet (70m) long tunnel. It’s run by Buc-ee’s, a company that is sometimes dubbed the ‘Disney World among service stations’. Their location in Houston has an even longer tunnel which holds the current world record.
No, ‘small’ is not a word used in the vocabulary of Buc-ee’s. Many of their branches have around three hundred gas pumps and a convenience store which makes most regular supermarkets look like a 7-Eleven.
When Buc-ee’s opened a location in Katy (near Houston) in 2017, it was named the longest car wash in the world in the Guinness Book of World Records, with a whopping 255 feet (78 meter) long express tunnel.
Buc-ee’s is an American chain with gas stations in various locations around the country. It was founded in 1982 by Don Warren and Arch ‘Beaver’ Aplin III of Lake Jackson, Texas. It began as a small convenience store, but has evolved into a travel center concept.
In fact, nowadays the branches are literally attractions in itself. You can easily get lost in their giant convenience stores where you can buy anything from snacks, food, souvenirs and travel items. Buc-ee’s is best known for its brownies and beef jerky .
Largest in Florida
Buc-ee’s confirmed the new car wash in Florida late last year, adding that it will be the largest car wash in the entire state of Florida, with an express tunnel of 70 meters (230 feet).
The new addition to their massive complex in Daytona Beach is likely to make the destination even busier. The car wash is expected to open its doors in the coming summer.
