Shell opens first hybrid truck station with truck wash

Charging, eating and washing for truck drivers, all on one spot. Shell

Shell has opened a truck charging station at Truckstop 8 in the Dutch city of Eindhoven. It’s the first Shell energy hub for trucks in the Netherlands. The heavy weights will find both traditional and renewable fuels, charging poles and a truck wash.

Apart from being an “energy hub” for truck traffic, the drivers themselves can also gain energy at the Shell truck stop, as food and drinks are being served.

“Our first energy hub in the Netherlands for truck traffic is intended to send a clear signal that we see a future in this,” says Aleid van der Wiel, Head of Energy Products at Shell Mobility. “Truck location Eindhoven Acht is the first in a larger network of Shell hybrid stations along major road freight routes in Europe. A hub where we offer not only traditional fuels, but also low-carbon fuels. And of course electric charging, which is really becoming a trend now for heavy road transport.”

Strategically located

“We also like to help companies with electric charging on their own premises,” Van der Wiel continued. “However, not every entrepreneur has the physical and/or investment space for that. Moreover, it oversteps the existing power contract, or an overcrowded power grid throws a spanner in the works. For those entrepreneurs, and for trucks that need to recharge or charge on the road, the strategically located energy hub Eindhoven Acht is ideal.”
