Huge fine for British hand car wash
A hand car wash in the UK has been fined £40,000 after it was found to have employed illegal workers at the business.
According to the local newspaper, the company in question is Express Hand Car Wash, based on Richmond Road in Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire. The owner was handed the hefty fine after home office officials visited the firm last year.
In total, 14 businesses in the region were fined for employing illegal workers on the premises, including barbershops, Indian restaurants and a nail studio.
Hand car washes are commonplace in streets and communities across the UK, with estimates ranging from 8,000 to 20,000 locations, with annual turnover estimated to be £1.8 billion. The HCW industry has been identified as a high-risk sector for labor abuse. The workforce can include illegal migrants who have been trafficked to the UK.
