“A car wash creates additional traffic at a service station, which then brings additional sales opportunities,” says Alwin Kautz of TotalEnergies NL. According to the Shop, Food & Services manager, it is important to create ‘destinations’: service stations that people are willing to come to.

One way TotalEnergies is creating those destinations is by providing a car wash facility. “With the changing demand for the kind of energy on the service station forecourt, the other products and services we offer are becoming increasingly important.”

More than half

Of the 128 stations TotalEnergies owns and operates in the Netherlands, 73 have car wash operations under the WASH brand. In addition, the multi energy company has another 16 WASH-branded locations in the Netherlands at CODO operators. Last but not least, TotalEnergies runs three unmanned Express stations where customers can also clean their cars.

Renewal of installations

Because of the large number of washing facilities, regular renewals must also take place. Older rollovers in the network are replaced, and washing installations with a high number of washings also make way for newer alternatives. As a result, according to Kautz, the service remains of high quality and the operation runs at an optimal level.

Recently, for example, the wash facilities at four service stations throughout the country were completely renewed. While new car washes are being built in the north and the west of The Netherlands.
Cooperation with partners
In addition, the company is making “replacement investments” at a large number of locations. “In the coming period we will continue to invest heavily in the quality and scope of the WASH network,” Kautz says.

In replacing and placing the carwashes and rollovers, the company works with several parties. In the Netherlands, TotalEnergies does the placement of rollovers with WashTec and Christ. “For car washes, Savona is our party. And furthermore we have fixed partners for car wash chemistry (Kiehl), electricity (Van Eck), construction and rebuilding (ContrAll / Vision Construction / Mos Service), flooring (Mesa Coatings) and for IoT (SmartNow).”

Continue with a shiny car

According to the manager, a (refurbished) wash installation is of great added value for a gas station. “TotalEnergies wants the range of products and services to match the needs of its guests as closely as possible. Adding a rollover at a TotalEnergies service station makes it easy for guests to continue their journey with a shiny car. So you visit our service station not only to get energy for your car or yourself, but also to get your car shiny again.”
