A man in the UK has been banned from driving for more than two years after taking his vehicle through a car wash while drunk. That ban “includes car washes”, the judge specifically added.

The drunk driver wanted to take his car through the car wash at Morrisons in Lynn, we learn from a local newspaper. The police were alerted and when they arrived,  a woman was in the driver’s seat, while the owner of the car was standing outside his Vauxhall Insignia.

The woman was subsequently asked to perform a breath test, but she was below the limit. However, footage from the car wash clearly showed that the owner was behind the wheel during the drive through. Blood tests later proved he was more than three times above the alcohol limit.

26 months

Magistrates disqualified the man from driving for 26 months and also fined him for £1,166. “I very much suggest you do not even get behind the steering wheel of a stationary car, as the police may assume you are the driver”, the judge added as final words.
