Cars stolen from New York car washes
Disturbing news from New York, where on three occasions cars were stolen from different car washes last week. The Brooklyn police are warning motorists to be vigilant, NBC News reported.
The vehicle thefts took place at car washes in Westchester County, New York last Monday. According to the local police department, a four-door blue BMW with tinted windows drove up to the Diamond Car Wash in Mamaroneck. A passenger wearing all black gloves, mask and hood jumped out and went into a gray BMW X5 that had just been washed. Both cars drove off, leaving behind a stunned owner.
That same day, a similar incident took place at Pelham Car Wash in the Village of Pelham Manor. Workers were finishing up drying a customer’s car when a black Audi pulled up. A masked person got out, hopped into the customer’s car and stole it.
Subsequently on Tuesday a gray BMW was stolen from the Dip In Car Wash, also in Mamaroneck.
Same pattern
“They have their modus operandi, they have their pattern, they know what they’re doing. They use these vehicles to commit other crimes,” said Lt. PJ Trujillo of the Mamaroneck Police Department to NBC News.
Police have obtained surveillance video from two of the incidents. One car has been retrieved and returned to the owner.
