Devastated Dutch car wash reopens its doors

The damage was extensive, last September

After being closed for almost three months, TheCarwash in the Dutch city of Oss hopes to reopen its doors just before Christmas. The car wash sustained major damage when a driver lost control of his car and raced through the car wash, last september.

The driver of the car probably accidentally stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake at the time of the incident, racing through the car wash at high speed. Patches of wash brushes were scattered around the area and a lamp pole was destroyed.

After the incident, owner Tom Muskens said the technical damage was extensive. “We have to assess the damage and make repairs to ensure the safety of our customers.” He did not think at the time this process would take three months.

Completely new

“At first we thought about repairing the damage, but pretty soon we switched to a plan for a completely new installation”, he told Dutch news site Dtv. “The technical team has now almost finished installing the plant and next week the person who will take care of the controls and the software will arrive”, he added.

If all goes according to plan, TheCarwash will reopen its doors just before Christmas.
